I said before that one in four comedians are comediennes, but some estimates are as low as 10%. Female cartoonists are in the minority too, at an estimated 9% worldwide. One study showed that of the 20 highest-earning standup British comedians only one is female. 5 out of 21 of the 2013 SNL hosts were women.
Is it because women have a bad sense of humor? Though there have been multiple studies throughout the years that show women are less likely to enjoy humor, a recent study shows that many of the jokes used were of a sexist nature. Could it be that the stereotype of women as humorless is because we simply don’t like being the butt of the joke?
